Extra Credit on Before Stonewall

I am writing this because I hope to see this movie again.  Before Stonewall struck my fancy as to the history of homosexuals in the United States,and I also got a brief description of how they are treated in other countries around the world.    The movie showed people that have lived thru the last century.  They were able to, movie was made in 1984, speak of how they saw the gay and lesbian life thru their youth.  These individuals spoke of how people were treated, and they spoke of how people thought of them.  The pictures and details of their experience gave such a vivid detailed thought in my head as I watched the movie.  Any movie that can do this with words and picture will fascinate any human.  I reccomend this movie to be seen.

Where I was from in the state of Maine, people just did their thing and may have talked about someone, but they did not segragate the way I saw it in the film on Wednesdays class.  I am pleased that descendents of Africa wanted to have equal rights that they deserved back then and now.  It does not make a darn bit of difference what someone looks like or how dark their skin is.  We all eat, communicate, and poop the same way!  Cultures have different ways, and sometimes I may not like a trait I see, but it is not for me or anyone else to discriminate anyone for where they were originally from!  If anything, learn from any indivudual.  You may like somthing they may do, and want to do it yourself!  I was astonished in the brief film we saw how busses got burnt because of what they felt.  Heck, they wanted to get from point A to point B without any issues of skin darkness.  Sorry, i am not the most pleasing person to talk to about segregation.  I hate it how when asked here in Kentucky to describe someone, they ask wether they are "black or white", and I HATE IT when asked that.  To me it is offensive, and maybe if they asked what location their descendents were from I may not feel as annoyed in giving a description of someone.

#2 Revised: Shopping Advertisment

            The writing of Douglas Rushkoff in his article “Why We Listen to What ‘They’ Say” at first makes sense because he gives examples of what groups are informing us about, but as the article goes on, it begins to veer more towards just the author.  The word they is used quite often to show what the groups opinion is or the person.  As the article goes on, you will see it go from the word they to actual types of groups like advertisers.  An example of this is a mall clerk.  A female may unbutton her shirt a little more for the appeal of the male shopper.  She may provoke the male shopper in to buying one more thing by her communication to him along with her appearance.  Other than the example I just gave, the article by Douglas seemed long and boring to me.  I got half way thru reading the work before I began to get bored with it, but this type of reading was not to my appeal.  Also mentioned in this writing is how the CB radio was going out due to the way communication has changed over time.  I disagree with this due to knowing many individuals who use this type of communication that is not monitored as strict as other types like the internet.  He also mentions how organizations use types of ads that go out of the traditional manner.  If I see an ad that I do not fully understand, I investigate a product before ever buying whatever it may be.  Such an example is a pair of shoes.  I will see an ad for sneakers, and if the footwear seems appealing, I will look up the company to see how long the product has been out.  Then the task of asking people about the sneakers if they have the same pair to see how they like them comfort wise.  If all is good with the product, then I will purchase a pair.  Mr. Rushkoff mentions how people will just jump at something to buy it due to the advertising strategy, and I have seen this first hand with people that buy something for the way it looks or who wears it.  He also seemed to boast on himself by the number of books he has written.  Books are outstanding to read, but I got the impression that he was a little too on himself with the way he said people came to him and read his books on the strategies that are changing and business aspect at telling us to get something.  I will not read this article again, and I would not recommend it.  To someone else the writing may have appeal, but to each his own

#3 Revised: The Three In To One

 Wow! Having to combine three separate articles in to one is a bit challenging to me.  Two writings I have combined, but I have never done three.  Wikpedia has an article called “Age of Enlightenment” has a reason why science, rather than religion, should be used to decide how we perceive how human beings should live for the future to better ourselves.  It was a good article, but the RSA Animate were far more appealing because they showed visual learning, vocal learning, and perception of how something is or can possibly be.  Matthew Taylor states in his animate “21^st Century Enlightenment” that education helps us to perceive things.  Really appealing to me was how he states that a person should “not buy a self-help book, but rather find happier friends.”  I liked how he stated that in an environment that encourages us to prosper and learn is far better than one that is bland and dismal.  Oh wait, this sounds more like what the gentleman Sir. Ken Robinson had stated in his animate called “Changing Education Paradigms”.  The animate thru Mr. Robinson had quite a bit of seriousness in his wording, and it had a good amount of comedy to keep your attention to it such as the ADHD plague mentioned in The United States that gets worse as you go farther towards the Atlantic Ocean via land.  He said how we should not dope our children up with medications, but should promote them in school, and not have as many outside influences to do such as the electronics like computers, numerous television stations to watch, and other like items.  Found to be neat was the word aesthetic. I have heard it before, but had not known the meaning.  I looked it up to see at full life potential according to the dictionary.  I got to see something I had never noticed. 

#5: The Fictional Character

I really enjoyed watching the video online called “Rachel Maddow Interviews Lalo Alcaraz On His Satirical Movement: Self-Deportation (VIDEO)”.  The video talked about a fictional character called Daniel D. Portato who wanted people to relocate themselves to the country of origin where they came from.  The character was made up by a man called Lalo Alcaraz back in the year 1994 when the state of California was going thru a proposition called 187.  Proposition 187 was a wonderful idea that was passed to yank illegal people here in the United States from schooling, hospital care, and any type of government assistance programs in California.  It was very unfortunate that The Supreme Court of California dropped it from going in to law.  It would have helped clear out a bunch of illegal people that did not belong here.  Rachel Maddow was the individual who was on the show, and she was the one who did the interview with Mr. Alcaraz stating that people in the government took the characters meaning serious even though it was a complete joke.  Even though the fictional character Portato was supposed to be a joke, I so wish the character was taken serious due to the number of foreign people that do not belong here.  A lot of these people get aid from the government such as housing, medical, and food.  These people do not deserve this because they are not trying to be here the legal way.  The individuals that have children here who were born in this country should be taken back to their country, but the children would be able to stay here because they are citizens, not the illegal parents.  If the parents wanted to come back the legal way, then they would be granted that right.  Another possible idea for illegal people is a euthanizing concept to deter them from coming to this country.  I hate illegal people.

#4: Homework

Political Anarchism With The Government

            The two words together form political anarchism.  They mean together “The theory or doctrine that all forms of government are oppressive and undesirable and should be abolished. 2. Active resistance and terrorism against the states (www.thefreedictionary.com/Anarchism (political).  This is the best way I found to understand the words written by Michael Benton in his work called “My Understanding of Anarchism.” I have a hard time understanding the different sides of government as far as political parties, and how they try to run how individuals feel the government should operate such as how right-libertarians that want to limit the use of government in most things and rather have the private sector operate these things.  The left- libertarians want more autonomy in to someone’s life to control.  People changing things with the government are a type of anarchism that political parties use to their behalf to better themselves or how they feel the government should run.  People who believe in anarchism also feel that the government should be in place, but with a smaller amount of authority.  I also like how Mr. Benton stated “liberty = individual responsibility + consensus decision making + cooperative learning + participatory economics.”  This helped me better understand how someone feels about the word liberty.  Liberty to me means the freedom to choose.  I clearly have a limited knowledge of how this word can mean to someone else.  Philosophy is another word that I did not fully know what it meant until reading the article by Wikipedia called “Political Philosophy”.  The article says that philosophy is the study of something such as politics, justice, or legal code.  I thought philosophy was the thought process for a higher education level.  I was wrong until I read this article.  I still do not have a full grasp of government, but after reading this, and taking a test last class, I feel more knowledgeable on what types of government there are here in the United States.
